Sep 08, 2010

LITTLE SLUGGERS RULES

GAMES

  • One (1) hour in length during June (players are still in school) and 1 ½  to 2 hours duration throughout the summer.
  • Begin at 6:00 PM.
  • NO SCORES ARE KEPT.
  • Rain out games will not be made up.

IMPORTANT: If HRM declares that the field(s) are not playable then all coaches must adhere to their decision.  Coaches who decide to play and/or practice after HRM has declared the fields unplayable will be given an immediate suspension.

RULES OF PLAY

  1. All players get to play the field - no one sits on the bench.
  2. All players get to bat - in any order, in any inning.
  3. All players remain on the bench until it is their turn to bat.
  4. The only player who will be allowed to swing/hold a bat is the batter.

IMPORTANT: Over the years, a number of players and spectators have been hit with a bat by young players, who in their eagerness to swing a bat, do not look around to see if anyone is near where/when they are swinging.

  5. Each batter may continue batting until they hit a fair ball.
  6. No runners are called out. If the play results in an out, the player remains on the base (as if they were safe).
  7. When a ball is put in play, all runners may only advance one base (unless it's the last batter - see rule 10).
  8. When all players on one team complete their turn at bat , the other team comes off the field to bat.
  9. Coaches must call/declare last batter.
  10. The last batter may advance all the way around the bases regardless of whether they are tagged or forced out.
  11. No scores and/or standings are kept.
  12. The emphasis must be on FUN and helping the children develop a love of the game.
